Enneagram-informed therapy

I offer Enneagram-informed therapy for those interested in exploring their healing and growth path through the lens of the Enneagram. Whether you’re familiar with the Enneagram or completely new to it, I can accompany you on your journey.  Please read on for more information about the Enneagram and my approach to working with it.

About the Enneagram

The Enneagram is an ancient personality system, drawing from both Eastern wisdom and Western psychology. It describes nine ways of being in the world - each type with a different way of relating to others, the world and oneself. Alongside this it offers 9 paths toward wholeness, healing, and freedom. It can be a powerful tool for self-understanding and transformation.

The Enneagram reveals both our light and our shadow. In my experience, shadow work can be challenging - but also deeply transformative. As Jung wrote, we find gold in the shadows. When we bring our shadow into awareness, held within the light of a kind and supportive relational space, it can become a profound source of insight, growth, and healing.

The Enneagram can also offer insight into our relationships. It can help us notice not only how our own type shapes the way we relate, but how our type may interact in relationship with other enneatypes. It enables greater awareness, compassion, and attunement, opening the door to healthier relational dynamics.

My approach to the Enneagram

In my approach to working with the enneagram I respect that our enneatype pattern is often adopted as an early survival strategy - a creative and intelligent way of coping with and adapting to our environment. Working with the Enneagram in therapy allows us to honour how these patterns have served us - and may still do so - while also gently exploring where they might limit us, helping us reconnect with a deeper sense of self and belonging.

I see the Enneagram as a lens rather than a label - a helpful map, but not the territory itself. I do not think any typology can capture the complexity and uniqueness of our lived experience. As a humanistic therapist, I hold your uniqueness at the heart of our work, using the Enneagram with fluidity and creativity rather than as a fixed structure.

In therapy, being aware together of how your enneatype pattern shows up in the ‘here and now’ of the therapeutic space and relationship can be helpful. For example, if you resonate with Type 6 energy, you might find yourself seeking reassurance and deferring to my opinion from a place of self-doubt. If you identify with Type 1 you may approach therapy with a focus on self-improvement, from a place of not feeling good enough. Gently bringing these patterns into awareness can open the door to deeper healing and self-understanding.

As your enneatype ‘process’ surfaces in the therapeutic space, I’ll seek to gently support you towards healing and integration. To give some illustrative examples, if you are a type 2 who is focusing on others, I may invite you back to getting in touch with your own needs. If you relate to Type 9, I might encourage you to practice taking up space - naming discomforts or needs that might otherwise stay unspoken.

Most importantly, I would not see you as your number, but as a whole person. The Enneagram may offer shared language and insight, but my intention is always to meet you as a unique person.

Influences, background and experience

You can read more about my broader background as a therapist, educator, and group facilitator on the [About Me] page.

In terms of the Enneagram specifically, I draw inspiration from the work of Beatrice Chestnut, particularly her focus on the 27 subtypes (three instinctual variants for each of the nine types). This more nuanced approach allows for a deeper exploration of the ways we move through the world.

My own journey with the Enneagram began while living on a farm in rural France, recovering from burnout after years of working in homelessness services. I came across a book on the Enneagram, and reading about my type felt like a description of my life! The Enneagram enabled self-awareness and a deeply healing journey to unfold over the next decade. I recognise that the Enneagram isn’t for everyone, but for those who feel drawn to it - or are curious to learn more - I am passionate about offering a safe, supportive space to explore together.

Booking in a session…

If you would like to explore working together please do get in touch. I offer online video sessions or in person sessions in Brighton, UK. My fee is £60 for each 50 minute session. I offer an initial session for £30, which gives you a chance to meet me, for us to explore working together. You can then decide if you feel I am a good ‘fit’ for you. Please note, that I do not offer one-off typing interviews, but work with the Enneagram as part of my therapy practice.

New to the Enneagram…?

If you’re new to the Enneagram and unsure of your type, I recommend visiting the Enneagram Institute website as a good starting place. There are also many online typing questionnaires. In my experience, a good place to start can be reading the 9 types and seeing which resonate with you.
